Hey, not sure if I'm allowed to ask questions here but I'll try anyway. Hopefully a mod can redirect me If I create this in the wrong part of the forums.
My monk is currently level 16 with no secondary profession. I've tried to read up on my choices for secondary profession but can't find much very much.
- I understand that most people prefer Mo/E. Why is this? Do people max
Fire magic and just spam flare and fire storm instead of smiting prayers? Or only pick it for flare? Someone said this was the fastest Charr farmer but I'm unsure what skill combination that would be.
- I intend to level up to 20 and after that farm charr and just go around
having fun. So I won't keep my imp. So some people seem to recommend Mo/R for a pet that can tank instead. Does it really matter when I am level 20?
- Looking around it looks like Mo/N would be fun. I today use
Healing breeze + Shielding hands to rush in close and cast Symbol of Wrath. Life siphon and Blood renewal would work well with that i guess? So i could run into larger groups and nuke them up close and just survive off my health regen.
- Mo/Me looks like it would work too, all those skills seem nice.
Depending on my choice of secondary profession i suppose that my choices of runes and insignias will be different. Some will be more energy needy while others would do fine and just add more health? Do people usually roll with runes that give +1 in all their attributes or just a single +1 in the headgear? Does anybody have any tips for what weapons i should use? Currently using a staff with +4 energy and +17% longer enchants.
Thanks!

I'm not that much of a Monk expert, but if you want to farm @ 20, either Mo/E or Mo/R should do. This would be the 'fastest' imo. Someone correct me if I'm wrong <_< Not sure about the rest of your questions lol, hopefully someone else can help you with that.

You're more than welcome to ask questions here! If you're looking for the "fastest" charr farmer overall, then either a elementalist or ranger primary would probably be the way to go. If you really like to the monk profession that much, then yeah, mo/e would be good for farming charr. My guess would be to go for a build with high fire magic, medium healing, and medium smiting. I'm thinking flare, firestorm, symbol of wrath, healing breeze, possibly aura of restoration, shielding hands as a cover enchantment (to protect healing breeze/aura), bane signet, and perhaps orison of healing (or maybe rez sig if farming with a partner).
As for using a pet to tank, well yeah, if you aggro 2+ groups of charr at once, things can get pretty intense, so it would be a huge help, although you wouldn't be able to benefit from the damage output of the ele secondary. Mo/N would be an interesting choice, for sure. It's certainly not commonly seen in pre - could be cool. For runes, I would go with 5 survivor, minor vigor, healing prayers, and vitae on the rest. I'm not too experienced with how well the monk profession deals with energy management in pre, so if you find yourself low on energy a lot, you might either need to adjust your play style or replace some of the runes with radiants/attunements. Since you're relying heavily on the secondary profession for damage, I would consider using a staff with an inherent 9% hct spells. Either enchanting or +health is perfect for the suffix, and +energy is good on the prefix, although you could experiment with +health as well. Some people choose to switch to a "def set," usually consisting of a wand (with hct/hsr spells) or a sword/axe (with +5 defense bonus) alongside a shield with +armour vs charr and some sort of +health attribute (while enchanted would be perfect for a mo/e profession). You could also try to go for a wand/offhand combo that's as close to 9/9 as you can find.

Hi! Thats what I'm using on my Monk/ele: OwYUoyW9MYE0SYFDkCAZZclA Attributes: 9 fire, 5 healing, 6 prot, Personally I was never a fan of smiting prayers, thats why I havent been using it, but it might be even quicker if you put some points to smiting too, its just my taste. You can ball them up nicely, and at a high level of fire magic fire storm kills them very quickly.

You came to the right place brotherkaryll, unfortunately we don't have an indepth monk guide yet, that said, our forum members speak the truth! Monk/Ele certainly is a safe and fast bet for hunting charr. Fire magic works best, and it seems most people are leaning towards prot/healing instead of smiting, (smiting used to be the big deal back in the day before all classes had access to Flare) But it's your character to play with, let me know if you ever want to hunt! My monk is a Mo/W so it should be a good time!

Thank you all for the replies!
I really like the feel of the smiting prayers and their damage, but i understand spamming flare must be far superior. I've been thinking more about it and think I'll surrender and go Mo/E. Right now i have +1 smiting in my headgear but we'll see if i need +healing or something else. Does Mo/E need more energy to spam flare? Maybe attunement for the armor?
Mo/W sounds really cool too! But it needs that glacial sword, right? Finding a code to get that seems impossible these days. Would love for them to add some ingame way to get that item...
A way to change secondary profession in Pre-Searing would be awesome.

Actually the official unofficial cult of Mo/Wers uses axe based builds.

Actually the official unofficial cult of Mo/Wers uses axe based builds. I'd really like to know more about this. I'm interested in playing Mo/W and want to know the optimal set-up, insig, runes, and weapons for this. Because right now I just leveled a monk to 20 and I'm having the most difficult time farming Charr bosses and not enjoying it.
