Yes, they are very helpful indeed. I'm hoping more people will realize that support is still out there. You can't get help if you don't ask for it...

its been like a month or so and they havent told me anything besides "we havent forgotten about your ticket" because theyre having some sort of "internal issues with GW1"

Did you ever register your account with them? As of the moment they automated the game they recommended that every player do that, even if you don't own GW2. I did that, although I waited a couple of years, and I still get quick responses from them. If you have the original key code, it's far easier for them to recover your account. Check the box and see if you still have it.
Also, follow up on your support ticket, make sure it isn't buried in a pile.

Never linked to GW2, since I hadn't played during the time they made the announcement to merge/link accounts, so I never did it. I don't have the original codes for any of them, but know everything about the accounts outside of that. I follow up once in a while and they respond after a few days "we haven't forgotten about this".
