I've always felt the Canthan new year was an interesting event to farm in Presearing. True the tokens are basically junk as no one really gets interested in buying them till the event is nearly over, but I've always felt like any event brings a bonus to drops for my ele. Perhaps its just the slightly increased pace of charr runs, but a good long weekend has traditionally put me up by 8 to 10 kits, and more char bags, runes, and random purples than I can count.
After years of charr farming what quirks have you incorporated into your routine to "improve" drops?
I'm not asking for concrete evidence to contradict my clearly super secret and scientific method, more just asking what weird things do you do to theoretically improve your success with drops...
I myself have a fairly regular pattern.
Regardless of how fast your gate Ninja is, always kill the second Firestarter that crosses your path. He's dropped every dye for me solo, but only one black, and that for a gate opener who I may or may not have buried nearby...
I never start a run immediately, a lull of 2 to 3 minutes while my character loiters just inside the Northlands seems about right.
I always kill the oaks on the way, They are sneaky bastards who ache to taste your blood. Also they've dropped more black dyes than the charr shrine historically.
If I can get the first two charr groups into a bunch as I run up, I take them all on, even if there are multiple hunters which decrease my chances of getting them all into one big firestorm.
If the above move gets me dead because I fumbled either troll unguent or the Firestorm, its ok because dying is good luck if you just do it once early on.
If you get two runs with back to back kits, Restart the Gw Client and head back in.
If you hit 7+ Runs and you're just seeing terrible blue weapons, Go do a few loops around Green Hills and bank some Lodestones, worn, belts, and Unnatual Seeds. Then head back into Charr Country.
Keep your Mini pet out, Charr are into Burning Titans right?
*For a rough estimate on my rate of farming, for the Canthan Event I farmed up just over 3 stacks of Lunar Tokens from charr runs. So steady, but not an extreme amount of time spent charring.
