For about 2½ weeks I have not been able to interact with presearing.boards.net Some time after I changed my avatar, the homepage would show up like this: the Shoutbox would look like this: and if I tried to post anything I got this: Invariably, clicking on any link eventually gets me to the "Oops, there was an error!" message. At first I thought it was the site and waited figuring it was maintenance. Then, on a whim, I tried a friend's laptop and it came up normal. So began a nightmarish laundry list of changing settings / adding / deleting/ reinstalling / updating & modifying on my browser and then adding / deleting / uninstalling / reinstalling / updating & modifying settings on Windows 10. At this point I'm subscribing to the Deus Ex Machina theory which states my browser is jealous and sabotaging this one site. And that's the kicker - presearing boards is the only site producing this bizarre interface. I can still read most times and I can like posts - sometimes - but not much else. ( I changed my avatar back just now and am curious to see if that restores things.) Otherwise, I'm at a complete loss as to my next step. Also - just to make things weirder - using my friend's laptop is hit-n-miss as I've often received this: trying to access my account. So sorry to everyone, I just didn't want you guys thinking I was abandoning the site.

Are you using the default Win10 browser? I would try Chrome instead.

Are you using the default Win10 browser? I would try Chrome instead. I second this only because I don't know much about browsers but I know IE and Microsoft Edge are hot garbage and Chrome for life.

Sorry Tim. I like using Firefox it's always been good. It should fix the problem!

Does the website load properly when you try a different browser?

Firefox... should fix the problem! I enjoy Firefox immensely, myself. Well... I guess Firefox it is. My friend (the one whose laptop I used earlier today) told me to try Firefox last week. I believe "Go suck a neutron star - I don't want two browsers." was my reply. (Not looking forward to the crow I'll have to eat now.)
Chrome has always done fine. It's done fine since I joined - that's why I didn't switch browsers.
...I know IE and Microsoft Edge are hot garbage... Chrome for life. Agreed on both counts. I would've tried Firefox first, then maybe Opera, and then given up before using IE or Edge.
So, although I'm glad to be back, I'm still baffled that Chrome should work fine with all websites one day and then do text-only on one single website the next. I'm still hoping it's the avatar change and that Chrome will resume working in a day or two. Thanks for the advice.

I had that problem for about 1 minute this morning on Firefox! It was my quicklink. It happens sometimes. I deleted it and reset it and it's fine again. Then again, I'm still running Vista and many browsers don't support it anymore. Opera is another good browser for older windows versions. Sometimes I'm back and forth between the 2! If you have any problems in the future, check out Opera!

Vista My laptop is 13 years old and still running. (It will need a new battery soon, but luckily those are still available) I don't believe in fixing or replacing what isn't broken and I thoroughly refuse to fall into the "newest and flashiest" trap. Besides, I like having the ability to do my own maintenance whenever I want to as opposed to when Windows decides I need it. My kids are constantly having one problem after another with Windows 10, while my laptop hums along. It may be old, (I'm way older) but Vista treats me well! animated-smileys-love-erotic-047

Opera is another good browser for older windows versions. Chrome and I hit it off instantly. I'd given up on Firefox back then because of too much lagging. I was surprised last night when I saw the new Firefox took up 30% less memory and had to give it a try. So far it's pretty nice - much better than my memories of earlier versions. Vista I must concur. Although Vista never gave me any guff for the three or so weeks I used it, the grief it gave my friends - to say nothing of the indignation at Vista being incompatible with all previous graphics cards, etc - was colossal. My laptop is 13 years old and still running. I have no appropriate expletive to capture my reaction to this statement. The best I can say is that "surprise" was inadequate and I was forced to resort to "astonishment". It will need a new battery soon... It's hard to imagine it not needing a new everything soon. I don't believe in fixing or replacing what isn't broken and I thoroughly refuse to fall into the "newest and flashiest" trap. You are a far better human being than me. I kept an old laptop running for 5 years just fine and I was quite proud of myself. But you - 13 years?!? You should consider changing your name from Lady Lyn to one of the following: 1. Wizard Lyn 2. Mistress Necrotech or 3. Queen Kodiak and here's your Elite Presearing skill:

To be fair, lots of people I know have old laptops, they were made much better over a decade ago. And, it's a Dell...it runs circles around my son's 4 year old H P! Just a quick FYI... My sewing machine and vacuum are both over 25 years old and running fine too

What's the energy cost? Must be pretty high, being 13 years old and all... No energy. Keeping something alive THAT long is all blood, sweat, and magic.

For it's age, it actually has a setting to choose between max performance/energy saver/and balanced. I use it on balanced and it's not bad. I mean it's old, but it's not a dinosaur! I have run this thing for over 72 hrs straight in the past few months and it never overheats either. I'm telling you, Dell knows what the hell they're doing! (at least they did back then) But, I agree with Tim! It's MAGIC! The magic of Love & Respect! When you Love and take care of your tools, they Love you back by lasting!
