Hello everyone!
I'd like to share some data I compiled on Ranger builds in pre-searing.
This thread deals with the following questions and therefore should be seen as an extension of the really good Ranger guide by Lord.
When it comes to build optimization, Ranger is one of the most complex classes in pre-searing. While most classes basically just have to raise their main damage dealing attribute (e.g. Fire Magic) in order to deal the maximum avaiable damage, the damage output of a Ranger is defined by three attribute lines: Marksmanship, Wildernes Survival and Expertise.
In addition, there are many other factors which have an impact on your personal damage:
Before we compare different attribute point distributions, we should reduce those factors by streamlining them.
Your characters level defines the number of avaiable attribute points, as well as your damage dealt through skills (e.g. Ignite Arrows).
Since you don't really have influence on your level, it isn't really a challenge for this study.
However, the stats of your bow do have a high impact on your damage dealt. The variety of bows would really be a problem here, if the bonus bows didn't exist. Since almost every player has access to the nevermore flatbow, I will use its stats to make the results relevant for as many players as possible. In order to meet the requirement of this bow, you will need a level which is 7 or higher.
The damage of our pet will be left unattended here, because of two reasons:
Most challaging in regard to build optimization are the stats of your target. The influence of your targets level and armor rating is huge!
Therefore, it is mendatory to optimize your build for a single or your average target. Below, I will focus on the level 7 to level 10 Charr in the northlands.
Before going on, don't expect to find the only true and desirable build for your ranger. I can't tell you which build fits your pesonal playstyle best. However, what I can do, is providing the top five attribute point distributions I could find out of all possible combinations for a single encounter (yes, I checked them all).
Since my Excel sheet contains far more data than I can show in this thread, you may request any other evaluation. I will try to answer it the best I can.
Feel free to post any feedback
Edit: thanks for your feedback Lord. I will change the images as soon as I can. In the meantime you can enlarge them by right clicking.
Another to do is writing a summary for each level.

I'd like to share some data I compiled on Ranger builds in pre-searing.
This thread deals with the following questions and therefore should be seen as an extension of the really good Ranger guide by Lord.
- Which attribute point distribution offers the highest damage?
- How much damage do you lose by improving your heal or energy management?
- When should you be using Ignite Arrows instead of Read the Wind?
When it comes to build optimization, Ranger is one of the most complex classes in pre-searing. While most classes basically just have to raise their main damage dealing attribute (e.g. Fire Magic) in order to deal the maximum avaiable damage, the damage output of a Ranger is defined by three attribute lines: Marksmanship, Wildernes Survival and Expertise.
In addition, there are many other factors which have an impact on your personal damage:
- your level
- your weapon and its mods and requirement
- your pet
- level of your target
- armor rating of your target vs. physical damage
- armor rating of your target vs. fire damage

In order to meet the requirement of this bow, you will need a level which is 7 or higher.
The damage of our pet will be left unattended here, because of two reasons:
- pet damage is relatively low and not really reliable
- in order to optimize your pets damage, you must not have a bear and your pet should be dire (only achieved by deathleveling)
