Presearing Ascalon's 4 Frontier Outposts
Presearing Ascalon is comprised of 6 explorable areas, and six towns & outposts.
Ascalon City is the main township, while Ascalon Academy is the only mission outpost.
Aside from these 2, there are 4 frontier outposts.
This guide is meant to shed light on the 4 frontier outposts.
Ashford Abbey:
Located South West of Ascalon City, Ashford Abbey is the hub of Presearing travel.
It is the most central outpost of all, with Ascalon City to the North, Foibles Faire to the South,
Duke Barradin's estate to the West and Fort Ranik to the East.

Dedicated to the Goddess of Air & Light, Ashford Abbey is the spiritual center of Ashford Village,
which is located just down the hill from it's Eastern Exit in Lakeside County.
Priests and Priestesses of Dwayna gather here, around her statue,
kneeling in prayer to pay homage to their Goddess.
Nestled around the Statue of Dwayna, tombstones litter a small graveyard.
This graveyard was created especially for the ancestors of the Ascalonian Noble Class.
On the Western wall is the entrance to the catacombs, foreboding in appearance.
Many of Ascalon's less prominent citizens have been laid to rest within it's haunted chambers.
NPCs:
Spence a humble merchant, can be located just inside the entrance from Lakeside County.
Meerak the Scribe stands across from Spence, just in front of the Abbey doors.
He is involved in the quest Unsettling Rumors.
Brother Mhenlo is located at the back of the abbey, at the edge of the main courtyard,
near the Statue of Dwayna. He has 2 quests available for promising Monk Novitiates:
A Monk's Mission , followed by The Blessings of Balthazar.
Mhenlo is also involved in the following quests:
A New Monk Trainer, A Second Profession, Charr in the Catacombs, & The Poison Devourer.
Notes:
• Ashford Abbey's name is changed to Sardelac Sanitarium after the Searing .
• Near Dwayna, when viewed form Lakeside County, there is a spirit known as a Haunting Spectre.
• When viewing Ashford Abbey from Lakeside County,
you can also see NPCs that in other outposts you would not be able to.
Most outposts appear to be empty from the outside however, in Ashford Abbey,
both Brother Mhenlo and Wilton Payce can be seen from the outside.
Foibles Fair:
Continuing South along the road from Ashford Abbey,
the carefree traveler will pass from Lakeside County into Wizards Folly.
Not too far South of the portal, the foothills give rise to a cold and harsh mountainous region.
Located at the base of those mountains is a small outpost known as Foible's Fair.
Foible's Fair is an outdoor bazaar, or open market, flourishing under the cover of sprawling trees.
With colorful tents, and wagons full of supplies, it is a permanent fixture in Wizards Folly.
Many travel here in search of further education in the arcane arts, as well as for the trade.
Still more come just for the stories. On cool summer evenings Father Ian sits by the campfire,
weaving tales of delight far into the wee morning hours! Foibles Fair Storytime & Calendar.
NPCs:
Laren, a simple goods merchant, stands in front of his tent ready for business. He is located right
under the big tree that lies directly across from the Wizards Folly portal to the East.
Ralena Stormbringer, located in front of the tent next to Spence's, is an elementalist trainer.
Unlike other elementalist trainers, Ralena see little use for the element of fire.
She prefers to use Air Magic instead, harnessing the forces of wind and storm to bring forth tempests.
She has one quest available for arcane students: The Supremacy of Air.
Ralena is also involved in the quest: The Wayward Wizard.
Vassar, a mesmer trainer by trade, is located in front of the tent next to Ralena's.
He spends his days discussing various arcane practices with his friends.
He has one quest available for mesmer students: Domination Magic
Notes:
• The Foible's Fair of the Post Searing world is unexplorable, therefore its fate remains unknown.
• Father Ian survived The Searing and can be found, at times, in outposts decorated for the holidays.
In Post, he is more of a traveling bard, still spreading good cheer through his tales of wonder.
* Anomaly ~ There appear to be two exit symbols overlapping each other at the exit portal.
The Barradin Estate:
The Barradin Family are descended from the Ancient Royals of Tyria.
To trace Duke Barradin's lineage, you must view his Patents, which are most impressive.
His brother was King of Ascalon, and although next in line upon his death,
the people called for Adelbern to be their king. With no objection, but instead
with Barradin's blessing, Adelbern took over the throne of Ascalon.
Duke Barradin's daughter is Lady Althea, a mighty mesmer, as well as mesmer trainer.
She was betrothed to the heir to the throne, Prince Rurik, after Adelbern's coronation.
The Barradin Estate is located in the Barradin feif, Green Hills County, West of Ashford Abbey.
To Get there a traveler must head North of the abbey to the Green Hills county Portal.
Heading west, once you reach the aqueducts, The Barradin Estate Outpost lies just beyond.
At nearly two hundred hectares, or 495 acres, the estate is vast.
The vineyard itself is famous throughout the region, known for it's most exquisite grapes.
Amethyst, the most sought after wine in the kingdom, is produced at this estate.
NPCs:
Riley is a merchant and good friend of the Barradin Family for many years.
He spends his days trading with the vineyard workers and the occasional traveler.
Duke Barradin, now Lord of the estate, is a skilled warrior and respected leader.
He spends his days making wine, and training warriors in the martial arts.
Duke Barradin has one quest available for aspiring champions: Warriors Challenge.
He is also involved in the quest: The True King.
Little Thom spend his days at The Barradin Estate training warriors.
He is located near the exit portal, to the West of the outpost.
Little Thom has one secondary quest available for warriors: The Vineyard Problem.
As the recipient, he is also involved in the quest: Little Thom's Big Cloak.
Notes:
The Barradin Estate is the smallest outpost in all of Guild Wars 1.
Fort Ranik:
Traveling SouthEast from Ashford Abbey, a traveler will pass through the portal
from Lakeview County into Regent Valley, the Eastern frontier.
Following the path due East, one will eventually end up at Fort Ranik.
Fort Ranik is a fortress located in the far North East corner of Regent Valley.
Far from the Great Northern Wall, and potential Charr attacks, it is a safe haven for new recruits.
This stronghold is a well equipped training facility for future Ascalonian Troops,
complete with barracks and training grounds, as well as various merchants and traders.
Ascalonian soldiers are instructed in the latest techniques of warfare here, including tactical skills.
NPCs:
Gram, a merchant, lives within the safety of the fortress walls.
He spends his days trading with the recruits and other various inhabitants of the fort.
He can be located on the upper grounds of the fort, near Varis, and the exit portal.
Varis, a collector, also lives within the safety of the fortress.
He is located on the upper grounds, often chatting with Gram, near the exit portal to Regent Valley.
Varis will supply leggings for all professions in exchange for 3 Spider Legs.
He often visits a friend, Ivor Trueshot in Regent Valley, for more lively conversation.
Ascalon Guards patrol the fort day and night while recruits both train and slumber.
Several are stationed at this training facility, to help keep the peace within.
They also keep watch at various lookout points located in the walls of the upper grounds.
Lord Darrin oversees daily activities a short distance from the portal to Regent Valley.
He is located on a bridge, just uphill from the barracks, leading to the upper wall walkway.
He is involved in the quest: The True King.
Hatcher, a collector, is located just downhill from Lord Darrin, near the barracks and training grounds.
He will supply tunics and upper body armor for all professions in exchange for 5 Unnatural Seeds.
He too lives within the safety of the fortress, however he secretly longs for more adventure.
He often leaves the fort to go drinking with the The Bear Hunters in Regent Valley.
Notes:
This area is too heavily guarded for anything of note to occur!
