LOL Keith! (I put her clothes back on!)
Ok, let's get this back on topic!
To answer a few of your questions
ishalldefend ,
The Wayback Machine, a spider, crawls the web adding a pretty wondrous history of all publicly accessible World Wide Web pages to it's archives.
But, it can only access certain data, depending on the permissions given by the websites owner/creator:
"Crawlers consume resources on visited systems and often visit sites without approval. Issues of schedule, load, and "politeness" come into play when large collections of pages are accessed. Mechanisms exist for public sites not wishing to be crawled to make this known to the crawling agent. For instance, including a robots.txt file can request bots to index only parts of a website, or nothing at all."
"The number of Internet pages is extremely large; even the largest crawlers fall short of making a complete index."
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_crawlerThere are several pages that I remembered and I had wanted to bring them over and rewrite them.
Many of them were about the exotic (market) items along with some of the content referring to those items.
(The Glitches and even the Transition to VG and the Golds that dropped when it first started.)
I have tried many times, by accessing several different days that the info was archived, but to no avail.
The information on the old site that you can "dig" into is limited. Most of it is very superficial.
It was probably designed that way with the permissions to afford some privacy to the members.
I was, however able to get into a lot more of Guru's market threads.
IDK if it is because of less or no restrictions to web crawlers/spiders,
or simply because it has a more recent history, (not by much so this is not likely)
I added their WayBack Archive Address to our hotlinks because of this availability of market info.
Do we want to add (for historic notes if anything) any of the Price check info?
Oh, and
ishalldefend , just a quick note or two.
The weapon guide was salvaged by meir from the old site and is the base for our weapon guide.
I do think that any info taken should eventually be rewritten so that ALL of it, not just our newest additions,
are solely the property of Presearing Club Forums (without plagiarizing of any sort).
meir also salvaged the armor guide from the old site, which I made many changes to.
It did not have any vanguard info, because it didn't exist back when it was first written.
I added in that info, including the vanguard buffs, without making any other changes to the old guide.
It did not have collector armor info on the guide either, unless meir missed a page, so I added that in as well.
I want to go back myself and see if a page was missed and any vital information for armor with it.
(I just did this after the initial post, there is another page, but mine is more informative with the collector locations.)
I also just recently ( a few days ago) found a map with collector locations that I added in to our current armor guide.
Eventually whatever else was written by someone else's hand from the old site, should also be rewritten by one of us.
I've changed enough of the armor guide, but it should be gone through word by word.
Some of the info is generic and doesn't matter, like the armor specs themselves.
But whatever we have, we want to be able to keep as authentic and original ass possible.
It will matter, if we ever get more than a nod from A-Net.
I've read the money guide they have, it's more of a "how to" on presentation of self and product.
Be good looking, affirmative, confident, sexy to gain attention...blah blah blah.
meir may have used it for a base, but his guide is far more original and more suitable for us.
The charr farming guide for a monk may be a very useful addition (if reworded), to a monk guide for us.
Although very extensive, I think reworded it will need far less photos.
We just need someone with a monk character to grab a few screens for us.
We still need more than the basic info that I put up to give our members something!
So, in essence we do have some of the data copied from a few of these links,
but actual links to the site through The WayBack Machine, no.
If you want to add the main page link into the Looney Bin go for it,
I'll fiddle with the organization later! Other than that, How's that for returning the topic back to where it belongs?
